The Tuno Knob offshore wind farm installed in 1995 is the worlds oldest commercial offshore wind farm and remains in operation today courtesy Vestas Wind SystemsZF Wind Power has reached 10 GW of shipped offshore wind capacity through its long-term partnership with Vestas. This represents more than half of Europe’s geared offshore wind capacity. The cooperation between the two companies began in 1995 with 500 kW turbines at the Tunø Knob offshore wind farm in Denmark.

Over three decades, turbine sizes have increased to 15 MW, with ZF supplying drivetrain technology throughout this development. Europe’s offshore wind capacity stood at 37 GW at the end of 2024, and long-term targets range between 240 GW and 450 GW by 2050.
