The Dutch government has informed Parliament that it will reduce the country’s 2040 offshore wind target from 50 GW to a range of 30–40 GW. The revised figure is part of the North Sea Wind Energy Infrastructure Plan (WIN), presented last week, and will be formalised in the updated Climate and Energy Memorandum due in September.
The previous 50 GW ambition was described as unrealistic and unnecessary in light of updated electricity demand forecasts and slower-than-expected development of the hydrogen market. The government has confirmed that it will maintain its near-term target of 21 GW by 2032.
