Whiffle AtlasWhiffle has launched Whiffle Atlas, a mesoscale weather data service providing access to 20 years of precomputed hourly wind data. The service delivers long-term wind time series at 2 km resolution across ten fixed heights up to 500 m, suitable for site screening and model calibration workflows.

Based on the Whiffle Meso model, the dataset captures regional and local atmospheric features such as coastal transitions and terrain effects. It has been validated against more than 300 met masts across 170 onshore and offshore sites, showing low bias and strong correlation compared with standard mesoscale datasets.

Whiffle Atlas is currently available for Europe, the United States, Australia, Japan, and Korea, with other regions available on request. It provides 15 meteorological variables including wind speed, wind direction, air pressure, air density, temperature, relative humidity, stability, boundary-layer height, turbulence intensity, wind shear, veer, friction velocity, friction coefficient, heat flux, and surface roughness, all provided at ten fixed heights: 2 m, 10 m, 50 m, 100 m, 150 m, 200 m, 250 m, 300 m, 400 m, and 500 m.

RWE participated in testing Whiffle Atlas and is now using it across its global projects.
