Ports de Normandie will hold a public consultation from Thursday 5 June to Friday 11 July 2025 to present and discuss a strategic infrastructure project: the construction of a new heavy-duty quay in the port of Cherbourg, known as Flamands Zero (FL0). The project aims to strengthen the port’s position as a key player in marine renewable energy, particularly fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind.
Over the past ten years, the port of Cherbourg has become a hub in this sector, supporting nearly 800 jobs and increasing conventional port activity sevenfold. To meet the growing demands of the offshore wind industry and its logistics requirements, Ports de Normandie plans to build a 140-metre-long heavy-duty quay capable of withstanding loads of up to 20 tonnes per square metre, with infrastructure designed to accommodate future wind farms. The new quay will support and expand the port’s industrial activity while and it will enable Cherbourg to handle upcoming fixed-bottom wind farm projects and establish its operational capacity for assembling floating wind platforms. The public consultation invites local residents, port users and stakeholders to engage with the project in its early stages, before the formal public inquiry.
