Ming Yang Smart Energy has announced plans at China Wind Power to develop a floating wind turbine with a capacity of 50MW. The design features two 25MW rotors mounted on a V-shaped floating platform. The company intends to begin marketing the turbine immediately, with mass production scheduled to start in 2026.
According to Ming Yang, the turbine could achieve a cost below €1,230 per kilowatt, compared with current offshore wind costs of around €5,850 per kilowatt in Europe and between €2,900 and €4,100 in China. The company plans to manufacture the floating turbines in Guangdong, initially producing 50 units per year, with the possibility of expanding to 150 units in a second phase.
