Equinor’s 750 MW Bandibuli/Firefly floating offshore wind project has failed to sign a Renewable Energy Certificate support contract in South Korea. The project had been announced one year earlier as the country’s first successful floating offshore wind support awardee.
The project did not meet the fourth and final deadline to execute the contract. As a result, the subsidy may be withdrawn, and Equinor and Firefly could be excluded from state support schemes for up to five years. The reasons cited for not signing the contract include changes in the business environment as well as technical and commercial considerations.
Several key suppliers had already been selected, including Doosan Enerbility and Siemens Gamesa for 15 MW turbines, Samsung Heavy Industries for semi-submersible foundations, Ekwil for semi-submersible technology, LS Cable & System for submarine cables, and LS Marine Solution for cable installation.
