bp has agreed to sell its USA onshore wind business, BP Wind Energy North America, to LS Power. Following completion, the business will be integrated into LS Power’s portfolio company Clearlight Energy, increasing its total operating fleet to approximately 4.3GW.
The sale includes interests in ten operating onshore wind assets across seven states. bp currently operates nine of these projects, which have a combined gross capacity of 1.7GW (1.3GW net to bp). All assets are grid-connected and supply power to more than 15 off-takers. The workforce is expected to transfer to the new owner once the deal is finalised.
LS Power will add the wind portfolio to its broader energy infrastructure holdings, which include renewable energy, storage, flexible gas and renewable fuels. The company currently manages an operating portfolio of 21GW and oversees more than 780 miles of high-voltage transmission lines, with over 350 additional miles under development.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year, subject to regulatory approval.
